Stacks of boxes in storage in a basement

“I want to find my fishing pole. Can anyone use these things?”

PWJ was so honored to help these friends from book club in their move to retirement residence. We worked together on the treasure-finding mission, and rearranged things to streamline the process for the box-moving company. Here’s a “before” photo of the basement, and also a picture of the trunk on the way to donations. They’re not glamorous photos, but real people have real stuff. We can do hard things.

Ready for sale…

“My husband has been doing a lot to get this house ready to sell. We’re just on a deadline.”

PWJ put in the finishing clean on the areas that had some handyman work completed. With the supplies at hand, we took care of drywall dust, dander, and more to get the place photo-ready.

It’s too small to hire out a contractor, but it’s an important project for the feel of the home.

Here is a picture of a pantry, before and after painting. There’s a deep counter under the window, so cleaning and painting those areas was nearly impossible for this person with back pain. There is also a built-in set of shelves here, too, and hooks and brackets for wall storage. PWJ emptied the space first and washed the walls. With the textured walls, we used a brush, not roller, for the whole project. The window got a special coat of white paint, and the hardware got put back as needed. The fresh coat of paint in all the hard-to-reach spaces helped bring this small space out of some history and ready for new systems of storage.

The second set of photos is a front porch. In less than three hours, PWJ scraped the chipping paint, sanded the edges, and reapplied a fresh coat. With the proper painting methods, there was almost no cleanup and the front steps had maximum curb appeal.

Hope manifest

“I bought these to garden with my friend, but they’re still in the boxes. The instructions are overwhelming for me after work.”

PWJ was able to sort out the pieces, process, and tools to assemble this, and a second two-tier garden box.

The contractors left…

This awesome homeowner had her basement water issues professionally re-engineered. She put so much energy into keeping the folks on track with that project, that she needed someone else to manage the clean up. Homeownership is often a part-time job, but these improvements are the payment in the end. This basement is about 1000 sq ft. PWJ scrubbed the walls top to bottom, removing a mix of soil and construction materials. Some shelving did get moved with this project too. With the materials at hand, we managed to keep the floor relatively dry.
